Microsoft sold it's previous EMR acquisition one year ago, so why would Microsoft be looking at another system. Microsoft sold off an EMR built from the ground up based on .NET which was far better than anything on the US market, so this does not make since. Microsoft failure with the previous EMR was that Microsoft leadership did not understanding healthcare and the healthcare market.

I have used epic on inpatient care and Nexgen on the oupatient side
And that is exactly where both excel. I am a CMIO for a 100 Md indipendent practice and your analysis of the players is right on
Epic is arogant and inflexible and designed for MASSIVE HOSPITAL INPT systems . NEXGEN has support issues , which I believe are improving , but is remarkably maliable for a medium size practice that ,"knows what it wants". If I was buying stock I would dump cener, hold all scripts and buy Nexgen. PS I am

I've been thinking about this same topic recently as well, which started from frustration of MSFT products not knowing the acronym 'EHR' and always changing it to 'HER' when you type - annoying huh.

Then I started thinking about why MSFT couldn't dominate the EMR space if they could accomplish just 1 simple thing. If interested, the article is here:

Wow. I am surprised that every health care practice has to be converted by 2015. I thought perhaps it would have been done sooner! I think this article is just about one of the most informative and reliable ones I have read recently! The only thing I know is that there are companies that offer and can obtain personal health records, electronic services for patients like MedeFile, etc. and that is what a lot of people are converting to these days. I believe in doing so this will create less Medical errors. Thanks for a great read!

The market is trending to employment of physicians with large hospital organizations. Epic is #1 for satisfaction and growth for large organizations... and will remain until a company builds a full suite of products on a single database. Eclipsys with the Sunrise Ambulatory product could be the option but a solid revenue cycle product is still needed.

I think Microsoft should stay out of the Medical field. They have no concept of security and how to make a product sercure. Healthvault is a product ready to be hacked and patient's information exploited.

PracticeFusion is a .Net solution too. And according to your recent article, they have about 10% of the market, certainly scalable.

@JoeG

Thanks for the comment. The AllScripts/Healthvault connection is potentially a strong one.
